Tired of normal feelings and looking for some new adventures to spice up your travel? I can confidently say that exploring The Gobi Desert of Mongolia will be the most mysterious and extraordinary trip you have ever experienced before. Because one of the largest and most remote deserts in the world is waiting for you out there. It may seems nothing unique first, but once if you get there you’ll understand that it is a place of great nature beauty and extreme conditions.

There are so many wonderful aspects to see besides the sand mountains. Also, the temperatures can range from well below freezing in winter to over 40°C in summer, and rainfall is low. Despite these challenges, the Gobi Desert is home to a number of rare and endangered animals, including the snow leopard, Bactrian camel and Gobi bear. So if you are lucky enough, you might see those special animals too!

Sounds like what you’re looking for? Then, here are some things to consider before you go:

Choose the best time to visit

As I mentioned before, the Gobi Desert is a vast and isolated region in Mongolia which is known for its extreme conditions, with hot summers and cold winters. So from my experience, the best time to visit the Gobi Desert is in spring or autumn, when temperatures are more moderate. However, if you want to visit during the summer months, make sure to prepare enough water and the sun protection is a must. Because it took me days to make those sunburns fade from my skin after the journey.

There are a number of tour companies that offer camel treks because the desert landscape is also quite striking, with towering sand dunes and rocky mountain. But if you’re up to more adventure they also offer you some other interesting activities in the Gobi Desert too. So whether you’re looking for an adventure or simply want to appreciate the unique landscape, the Gobi Desert is well worth a visit.

Be prepared for long distances

The Gobi Desert is spanning over 500,000 square miles. Which means, it is a vast and empty place where you can easily find yourself walking for hours without seeing another soul. So what I’m trying to say is if you’re planning on exploring the Mongolian desert, it’s important to be well prepared.

Make sure you have necessary things to bring with like a map and compass, and know how to use them. Because “Life is like a desert. You only regret the oasis you let pass” they said. It’s also a good idea to bring water and food, as well as a first-aid kit. You won’t want to ruin your trip in this amazing place just because of the bad preparation. So pack all essential things, and enjoy your journey in more comfortable way!

Dress appropriately.Layering your clothing is key, as conditions can change quickly in the desert.

In desert, it is important to dress appropriately to protect yourself from the harsh conditions. In summer time lightweight, breathable fabrics are the best, and you should avoid from dark colors because they absorb heat. Also a wide-brimmed hat will protect your face from the sun, and a scarf or bandana can be used for cover your face when sandstorms blow through. But in areas like the Gobi Desert of Mongolia, especially which experiences severe winters, you’ll also need to prepare warm clothing as well. It is important to layer your clothing to stay warm as the temperature can drop below freezing at night.

Pack enough food and water

You need to be completely self-sufficient because there are no shops or restaurants in here. So I suggest you to pack some high-energy snacks and at least three litres of water for per person per day. Although the desert may seem barren and lifeless, but that’s one of the reasons which is making this trip more extreme and interesting. With its dramatic landscapes and unique wildlife, the Gobi Desert will become an unforgettable adventure for you.

Be aware of the risks.

Although the Gobi Desert is a beautiful place, it is also potentially dangerous. So always be prepared for possible risks. Be sure to let someone know where you are going, and check in regularly. And even though you are looking for adventure, don’t take the risks that could put you in danger directly.

The Gobi Desert is one of the driest places in the world. Although no rain falls for long periods of time, when it does rain the Gobi can receive up to 10 inches of rain in a single day. This can cause flash flooding, which can be very dangerous. So if you are planning on visiting the Gobi Desert, be sure to check weather and take all necessary precautions.

After all, I have shared all my experience with you guys. So what are you waiting for? Start planning your adventure today. Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are sand!
